EDSA carousel gets new Kamuning, Philam bus stations
Attention, commuters! The EDSA bus carousel has two new stations in Quezon City at Philam and Kamuning.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) inaugurated the new stations on Monday, July 15.
The Philam bus station, near North Avenue, features a clock at the footbridge entrance, ramps, and an elevator to make the stop more accessible to senior citizens and persons with disability, according to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.
"Four other footbridges, particularly stations in Monumento, Bagong Barrio, Balintawak, Guadalupe, have three elevators or manlifters each to encourage more passengers to ride the EDSA Busway," he added.
Enhancements were also made to existing stations such as Guadalupe, Santolan, Balintawak, Bagong Barrio, Monumento, Ayala, Buendia, Kaingin, Nepa Q-Mart, Quezon Avenue, Roosevelt, Roxas Boulevard, and Tramo, the DOTr said in a press release.
However, the MMDA reported on Monday that the glass on the newly installed elevators at stations in Balintawak, Bagong Barrio, and Guadalupe were shattered. They were later replaced for free, with MMDA Chair Romando Artes calling on the public to not destroy the lifts.
Apart from the new bus stations, the MMDA shared that it installed a smart traffic surveillance system with 166 CCTV cameras and 21 AI technologies along Monumento to Roxas Boulevard.
As of July 16, there are now 23 stops for the EDSA bus carousel from Monumento to PITX.
