Indian man found alive eight months after declared dead, cremated
A 36-year-old Indian man, who was officially declared dead, was found alive months after his so-called cremation.
Authorities from Margao in Goa, India confirmed that Deepak Balakrishnan Kandi was found in a hotel in the old station road area before being transferred to police custody.
The Times of India reported that Balakrishna, who has been on the lookout, went missing on June 7 last year in the town of Meppayur.
The missing person's report was filed at the local police custody before a body of a man was recovered from a beach in Kerala on July 14 and mistakenly identified as his.
Deepak's family even performed funeral ceremony and cremated the body. Days later, however, the police found out that the cremated body belongs to Irshad, a native of Panthirkkara in Kerala, who had also gone missing.
The misidentification was affirmed after conducting a DNA test on the dead's remains hence, a major search was carried out.
Deepak told the police that he has been busy during his death case, traveling alone to various places including Jaipur, Delhi, and Punjab, before arriving in Goa.
Margao town police ended his eight-month-long disappearance after regulating a random check of the guestlist of the hotel where Deepak stayed.
