Hidilyn Diaz bags PH weightlifting gold in 31st SEA Games tilt
Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz has once again brought the country another gold medal during her 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Diaz successfully made her mark in the women’s 55kg weightlifting category after clearing her first two attempts by lifting 90kgs and 92kgs respectively in the snatch event.
She failed to lift her third attempt at 94kgs, giving the advantage to fellow runner-up, Thailand's Sanikun Tanasan.
Diaz bounced back during the clean and jerk, where she easily got a good lift during her first attempt 114kg. The sweep gave her a 3-kg advantage over Tanasan.
Tanasan was a no-lift during her first clean and jerk attempt, ultimately solidifying Diaz's gold win.
After securing her gold, Hidilyn also attempted to break her SEA Games clean and jerk and total records at 120kg and 211kg, respectively.
Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino awarded the athlete her gold medal during the podium finish. Diaz won her first SEA Games gold back in 2019.
