King Charles is now officially richer than his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, according to the 2024 Sunday Times Rich List.

As stated in the list, Charles has a personal wealth of $770 million (P44.7 billion) compared to Elizabeth’s $468 million (P27.1 billion) in 2022, when she died in September of that year.

Charles’ wealth saw a $12 million (P697.3 million) increase since the list was released in 2023. He’s the 258th richest person in the United Kingdom to date.

His former aide told the Times that he rebuilt his wealth following his $21 million (P1.2 billion) divorce from Princess Diana in 1996 by saving profits he received from the Duchy of Cornwall, an estate that includes farms and houses. It also rents commercial properties in London, Milton Keynes, and Cornwall. Its income supports the Prince of Wales’ family and his charitable activities.

The Times reported that Charles increased the duchy’s annual profits by 42.6% to over $31 million (P1.8 billion) between 2011 and 2022. He also received $268 million (P15 billion) from the duchy between 2012 and 2022.

“(Charles) became prudent at tucking away some money from the Duchy,” the aide is quoted as saying.

“There have been suggestions that Camilla brought a good deal of money into their relationship, but that’s really not correct,” the aide added, pertaining to the queen and Charles’ wife.

Charles’ most valuable assets, according to the publication, are Scotland’s Balmoral Castle and Norfolk’s Sandringham Estate, whose prime farmland is worth over $360 million (P20.9 billion). His other properties include Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England, and a home in Wales.

Elizabeth also passed on her investment portfolio worth $151 million (P8.7 billion) when she passed away.
