What the cluck! China man jailed after scaring to death 1,100 chickens
A man from China was sentenced to jail after scaring to death 1,100 chickens that belonged to his neighbor.
Citing Chinese state media, CNN International reported that the man, surnamed Gu, had a feud with his neighbor, surnamed Zhong, since April 2022. Zhong reportedly cut down Gu's trees without permission.
In retaliation, Gu snuck into Zhong's chicken farm one night.
His intentions were unclear, but Gu's flashlight caused the chickens to panic and crowd into a corner. About 500 of them got trampled to death.
But Gu wasn't done exacting his revenge. He trespassed Zhong's property again later on and got 640 chickens killed.
He was then apprehended and forced to pay Zhong 3,000 yuan (P23,900).
Authorities estimated that the 1,100 dead chickens were worth 13,840 yuan (P110,000).
The court of Hengyang City in Hunan province ruled that Gu had intentionally caused "property loss" to Zhong.
It ordered Gu to serve six months in prison and a year-long probation.
