Leody De Guzman cries foul after ‘kaleody.com’ now redirects to ‘bongbongmarcos.com’
Presidential candidate Leody De Guzman plans to file charges after a domain bearing his name has now been redirected to the website of rival candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.
"Pinag-aaralan na natin ang paghahain ng kaso laban sa mga may pakana ng domain grabbing," De Guzman said in a statement.
The issue came about after it surfaced that the URL www.kaleody.com now redirects to www.bongbongmarcos.com.
Just last Feb. 20, De Guzman launched his official website www.kaleody.org. Non-profit organizations generally make use of ".org" as domains, while commercial websites use ".com."
ICANN, a registration data lookup tool for domain names and Internet number resources, showed that kaleody(dot)com was created on Feb. 23, 2022.
Domain registrar Whois also yielded the same results.
"Malinaw na ang intensyon ng ganitong 'dirty tricks' ay lumikha ng kalituhan sa mga botante at manabotahe ng kampanya ng iba," he said.
"Inaasahan nating marumi ang eleksyon ng mga elitista't tradisyunal na partido, ngunit hindi ko inakalang pati pangalan ko pala ay magagawa nilang nakawin," the Partido Lakas ng Masa standard bearer said. "Wala silang patawad, lahat na lang ay kanilang inaangkin."
De Guzman also called on authorities to investigate the matter.
De Guzman has been openly vocal about his disapproval of Marcos Jr, once saying that among his priorities if elected is to recover the Marcoses' alleged ill-gotten wealth.
PhilSTAR L!fe reached out to Marcos Jr.'s camp for comment regarding the website issue, but has yet to receive a reply.
