Riders get stranded almost 250 feet in the air during storm
What was supposed to be a happy moment turned into a harrowing ordeal for a group of people who got stuck almost 250 feet above the ground on an amusement ride during a storm.
PEOPLE Magazine reported that Six Flags Mexico had to temporarily halt some rides—including the Sky Screamer or the Supergirl Sky Flight, which takes riders around 242 feet into the air—due to the incident.
In a video circulating on social media, park visitors are seen suspended mid-air as they held onto their safety bars under heavy rains. Rider Omar Hernández Medran recalled in a Fox interview that they got "stuck at the top for 10 minutes" then.
Six Flags Mexico, in a statement, explained that the incident was caused by "sudden, intense rain" as they noted that all visitors were given immediate assistance.
"As part of this process, park staff followed the protocols established by the attraction manufacturer and all visitors were safely evacuated," it said. "Unfortunately, the storm intensified during the evacuation process, causing some uncomfortable moments for our visitors."
The park added that Sky Screamer pushed through with its normal operations "shortly after" the incident took place.
According to Six Flags Mexico's website, the Supergirl Sky Flight is the "tallest and most exciting spinning attraction in the region." The attraction goes up to 74 meters, offering guests "breathtaking panoramic views as they spin around the park and city below them for nearly 2 minutes."
The ride also offers a stunning aerial view of Mexico City.
