Baby dies after mom left her alone for 8 days to go on vacation
A mother has been arrested for murder in Ohio after she allegedly left her infant daughter alone for eight days while she went on vacation.
Kristel Candelario, 31, told the police that she found her 16-month-old daughter Jailyn unresponsive at home after returning from Puerto Rico last June 16.
Although the cause of death had not been released by the medical examiner yet, the investigators said that the child was "extremely dehydrated."
Authorities also noted that Jailyn's Pack 'N Play "consisted of soiled blankets and a bottom liner saturated with urine and feces."
WOIO spoke with neighbors who said that the child was usually cared for by her grandmother.
Suleym Gonzalez, a neighbor, said: “Her (the baby’s) mom always wanted to go out and just left her with her grandma and all that.”
Candelario has been charged with murder and is held on a $1 million bond. Her pre-trial hearing is scheduled on June 28.
A similar incident happened in 2019 after Verphy Kudi left her 20-month-old Asiah to celebrate her 18th birthday.
After six days of partying in London and Coventry, Kudi found her daughter unresponsive. According to reports, the baby died of "starvation and influenza, with reported signs of dehydration and severe nappy rash."
