What an egg-ceptional structure!

A hotel in Negros Occidental has been recognized by Guinness World Records for its "very unique and equally enormous landmark" building design that takes the form of a chicken.

Campuestohan Highland Resort located in the town of Campuestohan was officially honored with the title of the "largest building in the shape of a chicken" by the world's authority on record-breaking achievements.

According to Guinness, the hotel measures 34.931 m (114 ft 7 in) in height, 12.127 m (39 ft 9 in) in width and 28.172 m (92 ft 5 in) in length and is owned and operated by former Bacolod City councilor Ricardo "Cano" Tan.

"I had a vision to make something with a wow factor that can really leave a footprint of admiration to the public," Tan said.

It took less than two years for the hotel to be built after six months of planning and preparations. The construction began on June 10, 2023 and was completed Sept. 8 this year.

The establishment boasts 15 rooms, with air conditioners, large comfy beds, large televisions, and hot showers where small or large families or groups can relax and unwind.

Guests can also enjoy a massive wave pool, a large restaurant, a cafe, three swimming pools, bonita huts, and hundreds of dinosaurs and cartoon figures.

When it came to the building's quirky design, Tan explained that he chose the rooster shape because "Negros Occidental has a gamefowl industry that employs millions of people in the Philippines."

"If you look at a rooster, it looks calm and commanding, imposing and strong which reflects the attitude of our people," he said.

He added, "The rooster can stand against strong winds and can withstand pressure from other roosters, an attitude of Negrense people with resilience to recover quickly from any form of difficulties and hardships in life, one trait that their people have in times of crisis and challenges."

Achieving the design was no easy feat as the building had to be strong enough to deal with storms and typhoons that are common in the region.

Nevertheless, they managed to complete construction in just 456 days, making Tan "proud and humbled at the same time."

"I'm proud to have put my province and my home country on Guinness World Records. Humbled as I am from a poor upbringing where I had to work as a shoeshine boy to earn a living and go to school. I have made my family, my province and my country proud," he highlighted.

According to the website of Campuestohan Highland Resort, room rates range from P3,500 to P15,000 per night.
