Filipino radio anchor shot dead while on air
A radio broadcaster was shot dead during his live broadcast in Misamis Occidental on Sunday, Nov. 5.
In a Facebook post, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said that the victim, identified as Juan Jumalon a.k.a. DJ Johnny Walker, was on air for 94.7 Calamba Gold FM when he was killed by an unidentified gunman.
The incident was caught on camera via a livestream session of his program.
"The attack is even more condemnable since it happened at Jumalon's own home, which also served as the radio station," the NUJP said.
"Jumalon's killing is the 199th since 1986 and the fourth under the present administration," it noted, adding that it also comes in the same week as the International Day to End Impunity For Crimes Against Journalists.
Authorities are now investigating the matter.
The suspect and their motive for the murder are yet to be determined.
