Prince Charles praises Pinoy healthcare workers in message marking 75 years of UK-PH diplomatic ties
Prince Charles expressed his “heartfelt gratitude” to Filipino medical frontliners working in the United Kingdom in a special video message in time for this year’s celebration of the 75 years of the UK and the Philippines’ diplomatic relations.
“The bonds of friendship between us are stronger than ever, at the time when we have faced the unprecedented challenges of the coronavirus, those links have provided the foundation for us to work together towards a better future,” said Prince Charles in a video posted by British Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce on Twitter Friday, June 11.
In the message, Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth and heir to the British throne, acknowledged the thousands of Filipino nurses and healthcare workers in the UK, particularly those about 30,000 Pinoys who have become an essential part of the country’s National Health Service.

“To these wonderfully selfless people I wanted to offer my most heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care and comfort you give to your patients. You have made a truly remarkable contribution to the health and well-being of so many people across the country at such a difficult time,” he said.
“My fondest thoughts are with the Philippines, and all those who wish to join me in celebrating our profoundly important relationship,” Prince Charles concluded.
It was on July 4, 1946 when the first formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the United Kingdom were established. According to the Philippine Embassy in London, the two countries “have worked tirelessly to foster stronger political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties.”
