ICYMI: What to know about the terminal reassignments at NAIA
Confused about the news that there's going to be some terminal reassignments at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)?
In case you missed it, reports have detailed that NAIA is set to reassign the airport terminals after the consortium led by conglomerate San Miguel Corp. became the new operator of the airport on Sept. 14.
In a statement, San Miguel Corp. promised travelers that they can "expect improvements in the facilities within the next three to six months."
"Long term, the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) plans to construct a new terminal and other facilities that will increase NAIA’s capacity from 35 to 62 million passengers annually. For now, NNIC will maintain smooth operations, with gradual and methodical improvements," they added.
Along with these upcoming improvements, NNIC is also proposing the following terminal reassignments:
- NAIA Terminal 1 will be exclusively for Philippine Airlines’ international flights
- NAIA Terminal 2 will be for domestic flights from Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific
- NAIA Terminal 3 will be for all other international flights from Cebu Pacific and AirAsia Philippines
- NAIA Terminal 4 will be for AirAsia Philippines’ domestic flights
However, Cebu Pacific asserted that all its (5J) domestic and international flights remain at NAIA Terminal 3, while their Cebgo (DG) flights continue to operate from NAIA Terminal 4.
"CEB fully supports the long-term vision of the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp., and we will continue to work with our partners so future plans are executed smoothly," the airline stated.
Meanwhile, AirAsia clarified that they are still operating domestic flights via Terminal 2 and international flights via Terminal 3.
"We share the vision of the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) to enhance the airport experience, putting guest comfort and convenience at the heart of what we do. As discussions with NNIC and other stakeholders progress, we advise guests to follow the terminal assignments in their itineraries," they assured.
Philippine Airlines has yet to issue a statement regarding the terminal changes.
As of writing, there is no definitive date as to when the possible reassignments will take effect, but NNIC president Ramon Ang asked the public for their patience as this will take time. Nevertheless, he promised that they will be able to deliver the improvements.
"With continued support and cooperation from the government, airlines, passengers, and airport staff, we can achieve all our targets and transform NAIA into an airport every Filipino can be proud of," he said.
