A total of 3,962 new Filipino lawyers are joining the legal profession as the 2024 Bar exam results were released on the afternoon of Friday the 13th, December.

Associate Justice Mario Lopez, the 2024 Bar chair, in a Facebook livestream said the passing rate was 37.84%. There were 12,246 registered takers but on the first day of exams, only 10,502 showed up. On the second day, that number dropped to 10,493.

Lopez said they adopted a passing grade of 74% instead of the usual 75%.

Kyle Christian Tutor of the University of the Philippines was the Bar topnotcher with a grade of 85.7700%.

The Bar results announcement was supposed to start at noon but was delayed by an hour.

"But the delay is a good news to everyone," Lopez said. "Because the delay is worth a sacrifice."

Lopez reiterated that the Bar exam questions were neither easy nor difficult.

"Sakto lang," he said. "We want to produce lawyers who are not just prepared to practice but who are also equipped with professionalism, empathy, and commitment to public service."

He said the new passers will become the new advocates of justice and truth.

"Remain humble as you are not superior [to] those who failed," Lopez said.

As for those who didn't pass this year, Lopez offered words of encouragement.

"Failure is a temporary detour, not a fatal defeat," he said. "Rise above it, move forward, and try again. Never lose the reason why you want to become a lawyer."

The oathtaking is on Jan. 24, 2025.
