DOT issues show-cause order vs Makati Hotel where flight attendant was found dead
The Department of Tourism (DOT) has asked City Garden Hotel to explain why its accreditation should not be revoked after a party that resulted in the death of a flight attendant happened in the hotel’s premises.
Christine Dacera, a 23-year-old flight attendant, died after attending a New Year’s Eve party in the hotel.
“We understand based on reports that several individuals have checked-in or spent the evening in one of your rooms on the said date,” said DOT Regional Director Woodrow Maquiling Jr. in a January 5 letter.
Maquiling Jr. asked the hotel why it continues to accept guests “for leisure purposes” despite being used as a quarantine facility.
The DOT noted that its Administrative Order No. 2020-006-C “provides that hotels accommodating guests for staycation purposes must not be concurrently used as a quarantine or isolation facility.”
The DOT ordered City Garden Hotel to explain in writing within three days why its accreditation should not be suspended or revoked due to the violation.
