ICYDK, free Philippine history texts are available via the NHCP National Memory Project

Filipino history buffs may sate their ever-growing curiosity thanks to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP)’s National Memory Project.

Users may go to memory.nhcp.gov.ph and access several Philippine history materials right at their fingertips, whether they’re using smartphones or computers.

There are four accessibility levels: open access, which allows free download of files; view only, which doesn’t allow downloading; snippet view, or limited access to the items; and restricted access, due to copyright concerns.

Nevertheless, the NHCP said such limited or inaccessible materials online may be accessed in person at the NHCP Serafin D. Quiason Resource Center in Ermita in Manila.

Materials include local history, Mindanao, women, Jose Rizal, the Philippine Revolution, Philippine history, and NHCP publication.

Readers may also use the search bar to type keywords or phrases related to their desired texts.

The NHCP also details the collections it has as contributed by several figures, including those from Bulacan governor Alejo Santos, Jaime Veneracion of the University of the Philippines Department of History, the National Library of the Philippines, and Xiao Chua of De La Salle University.

On the website, the NHCP said that since 2020, it has allotted a budget for the continuous development of an online platform that can hold a great number of high-resolution digitized materials concerning Philippine national and local history.
