Vlogger couple under fire for filming 2-year-old in hot car for content

A vlogger couple caused uproar online after filming their 2-year-old child inside a hot vehicle and posting the video on YouTube.

South China Morning Post recently reported that the pair, known as the "Raunano Family" on social media, titled their now-deleted entry My Daughter Trapped in a Car Under the Burning Sun. In the vlog, their toddler named Nanoka is seen in the backseat of a car and locking herself inside by accident.

Nanoka kept crying for help while she was drenched in sweat. Instead of offering a hand and seeking assistance to get her out of it, her father decided to film her and teach her how to unlock the door by herself. "It's an emergency! Nanoka is locked in the car. The car is locked and she cannot get out!" he said behind the camera as a joke.

After being reportedly trapped in the car under high heat for half an hour, her father called a locksmith who was able to free Nanoka.

The YouTuber couple stirred controversy over the incident and made the rounds on social media for weeks.

"The parents are crazy. I have encountered a similar situation, and at that time, my heart was broken and I was so nervous that I felt like I wasn’t even alive. It’s amazing that someone can stay so calm to record this on their phone," an Internet user said.

"Does the money you earn from risking your child’s life make you feel good?" another one commented.

The parents have issued a public apology, saying they were "very sorry" for uploading a video "that made everyone uncomfortable."

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 970 children have died of heatstroke over the past 25 years after being left or getting stuck in a hot car. "A child's body temperature rises three to five times faster than an adult's," it noted. "When a child is left in a vehicle, that child's temperature can rise quickly—and the situation can quickly become dangerous."
