Woman dies after eating chocolate from fortune teller who 'predicted' her death—report
A 27-year-old woman passed away after reportedly consuming some chocolate given by a palm reader who said she was going to die soon.
According to her cousin Bianca Cristina, Fernanda Silva Valoz da Cruz Pinto crossed paths with the fortune teller while strolling through Macelo, Brazil. The latter told Pinto that she only had "a few days to live" and gave her some chocolate after their session.
"As [the candy] was packaged, it didn't occur to her [that it could pose any danger]. And as she was hungry, she decided to eat it," Cristina said in an interview published on local media outlet Globo 1.
"She vomited, her vision was a bit blurred, her body was soft... it was a matter of hours. She got home, felt sick, the next day she recovered a little, then she felt sick again. Her cousin accompanied her to the emergency room and, in the early hours of the morning, she passed away," she said.
Cristina rushed Pinto to the hospital, but the latter died the next day.
The incident took place in August this year, and her cause of death was only revealed two months after an investigation.
Authorities found "a high quantity of substances sulfotep and terbufos" in her body, according to her toxicology report.
Globo 1, however, noted that the examination did not confirm whether the candy she got from the fortune teller was the one that poisoned her and caused her passing.
Authorities are still trying to identify the suspect as of writing.
