PNP insists flight attendant’s death case ‘considered solved’
The Philippine National Police insists that the case of flight attendant Chrstine Dacera’s death is “considered solved.”
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Jan. 6, the PNP explains that according to “existing issuances” by the National Police Commission, a case is considered solved when the offender has been identified and there is sufficient evidence to charge the offender.
The offender also has to be taken into custody and has been charged before the prosecutor’s office.
In Dacera’s case, the post adds, “all four elements are present, thus the case is considered ‘solved’.”
The PNP earlier said the case is already branded as “closed,” even though only three suspects were taken into custody. Nine other suspects remain at large.
National Capital Region Police Office Chief Vicente Danao Jr., however, said he does not believe the Dacera’s death can be considered as “case solved” since nine out of the eleven suspects are still at large.
"'Pag sinabi mo kasing case solved, nai-file 'yung case and at the same time, nahuli 'yung mga suspek,” News 5 quoted Danao as to saying.
He also said, “Kung sinabi mo nang na-solve, dapat may klaro na kung sino yung na-rape, kung mayroon bang rape o ano ba talaga ang cause ng pagkamatay? It could be baka naman too much intoxication sa alak. Dapat yung mga yun ay ma-clear muna natin. Kasi baka mamaya mayroong ininom, or may unknowingly pinainom. Sino ang gumawa? Yung mga ganoon, so we have to identify these persons muna kung sino itong mga ito.”
Makati City Police station chief Col. Harold Depositar said that the victim was pronounced dead due to ruptured aortic aneurysm.
However, Atty. Brick Reyes, spokesperson of the Dacera family, refuted this.
“When we saw the certificate of death, we took photographs of Christine's injuries to show that 'what kind of autopsy is this? Why did you not specify the other injuries?'” Reyes said in a press conference on Tuesday. “That’s why it’s important to wait for the other medico legal report so we can exactly determine what were the findings. We disagree with the findings of the SOCO. We have conducted a separate autopsy and medico legal examination.”
