Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have welcomed their second child Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

Meghan gave birth to Lili—who weighed seven pounds and 11 ounces—on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” as per an official statement posted on the couple’s Archewell website. “Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”

The couple expressed their joy and excitement over the birth of their new baby, who is eighth in line to the British throne. “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe,” they said. “Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

For its part, the Buckingham Palace has released a statement on the news, which read: "The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”

Prince Harry and Meghan, who are also parents to their two-year-old son Archie Harrison, are on parental leave at the moment. “For those inquiring on sending gifts, we would ask that you support or learn more about these organizations working for women and girls: Girls Inc.Harvest HomeCAMFED or Myna Mahila Foundation,” the statement concluded.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their royal roles in 2020. According to BBC News, Prince Harry previously said their decision to live in the United States “had not been part of the plan, but he felt he had to put his family and mental health first.”
