‘The Kingmaker’ director urges Netflix, iWantTFC to stream the Imelda Marcos biopic
Award-winning filmmaker Lauren Greenfield is urging streaming platforms in the country such as Netflix Philippines and iWantTFC to showcase her biopic, The Kingmaker.
The 2019 "damning documentary" follows the Marcos family, particularly matriarch Imelda Marcos, during Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.'s vice-presidential run of 2015. The 100-minute documentary has been praised by critics worldwide for navigating the controversal legacy of the Marcos dictatorship through the words of the family themselves.
Greenfield shared her request via Twitter on Jan. 29 with the hashtag #PHVote to bring information in time for the 2022 national elections this May.
We are actively trying to encourage top executives at @Netflix_PH and @iwanttfc to broadcast THE KINGMAKER on both networks, simultaneously. If you agree, please like and retweet your support. #thekingmaker @Showtime @Dogwoof #PHVote pic.twitter.com/wqo9R5iR7x

After gaining over 29,000 retweets and more than 54,000 likes in the original tweet, she updated that the film has been made available for free in iWantTFC.
“Over a million impressions of this post in less than 24 hours. I am hopeful that this will encourage @iwanttfc and @Netflix_PH to share the film with their viewers,” Greenfield updated on Jan. 30.
"Please continue to share and promote this with your networks."
She hopes that the platforms will "make the right decision" by the coming week.
Thanks to everyone who has supported this post and retweeted it. It is up to @iwanttfc and @Netflix_PH but given the massive response here, they have to understand how much support there is to share THE KINGMAKER widely. Fingers crossed they’ll make the right decision next week.
