'FAKE NEWS': Malacañang dismisses circulating documents saying March 11 or Eid'l Fitr a national holiday

Malacañang dismissed circulating documents declaring that March 11 or Eid’l Fitr is a national holiday.

“The circulating document labeled “Proclamation No. 729,’ which purportedly declares Monday, March 11, 2024, as a nationwide regular holiday in celebration of Eid’l Fitr, is spurious,” the Gazette said in a Facebook post.

“It is a tampered version of Proclamation No. 729, s. 2019, issued by then Executive Secretary Medialdea during the previous administration,” it added.

Malacañang has yet to announce whether Eid’l Fitr will be a national holiday.

Its last declaration was Proclamation No. 486, which declares the month of February as tax awareness month.

Eid’l Fitr is the first of the two canonical events of Islam. It marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.
