Man blows up own apartment after trying to kill cockroach
Whenever we see a cockroach, it's in our instinct to get rid of it as quickly as possible. But a Japanese man quite literally blew things out of proportion when he caused an explosion in his own apartment after trying to kill the insect.
Citing Kumamoto Prefectural Police, local media reported that a 54-year-old man caused a huge ruckus in his neighborhood sometime before midnight when he saw a cockroach running around his apartment room and attempted to kill it.
He tried to get rid of the critter by spraying a massive amount of insecticide on it.
But just as he thought that he was going to have a peaceful, pest-free sleep, an explosion went off a minute later, which blew out a balcony window.
The blaze left the resident with a minor injury, according to authorities. Further investigation on the incident revealed that there were burn marks near his kotatsu, a Japanese heating table.
It was not specified whether the cockroach was killed from the insecticide or the resulting explosion. Extensive research, however, has proved that roaches have an extraordinary ability to endure radiations.
This is not the first time this happened. According to the National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan, it has received several reports of explosions caused by insecticides being sprayed near electrical outlets.
Several pest removal companies have explained that spraying pesticides at electrical outlets can damage them and consequently injure people, Straits Times reported.
