Damaged roller coaster leaves riders hanging upside down over 100 feet in the air

Is getting stuck on an amusement park ride one of your biggest fears?

A roller coaster at Universal Studios Japan stopped working during a ride with 32 people, who were left hanging upside down at its highest point over 100 feet above the ground.

A media representative of the well-known amusement park confirmed the news to CNN International, saying that the incident took place at its Flying Dinosaur offering on Thursday, Dec. 14. Japan's public broadcaster NHK said it happened around 11 in the morning while the riders were 40 meters or 130 feet in the air.

Everyone on the carriage was safe after what happened. They were guided to safety with the help of an emergency staircase.

According to another spokesperson for the theme park, the people on the ride were evacuated within 45 minutes.

While operations resumed later in the day, the affected attraction is still closed and is still under inspection after the mishap.

As stated in the official website of Universal Studios Japan, the Flying Dinosaur is an "incredibly long, state-of-the-art flying coaster that features unimaginable ascents and drops." In it, an "out of control" Pteranodon "seizes riders from behind and pulls them high into the sky, with nothing but air space between them and the ground." The theme park described it as an "over-the-top, thrilling experience."
