85-year-old woman sets path on her fourth degree

Learning doesn't stop at a certain age—an 85-year-old woman in England is proof of this as she's gearing up to take up her fourth university degree.

According to a report by the BBC, Lucille Terry is working on her fourth university degree with the Open University. She'll be in her nineties by the time she finishes the program.

"I can't just sit around, do nothing and watch television all the time," she told the outlet.

Lucille shared that her daughter asked her what she really liked doing. Her answer? Studying.

"I like studying. I do enjoy it. It's not a hardship for me."

The 85-year-old finished her first degree in pharmacy in 1962 and later completed degrees in humanities, psychology and humanities with religious studies. Now, she's taking up religious studies, philosophy and ethics remotely.

On people assuming she's "brainy" because of all her studying, Lucille said she wasn't "brilliant" at school.

"I did A-levels but I didn't get As. I was just middle of the road. I think one or two of my Open University courses, I got first class honors. You don't have to be brilliant to do it," Lucille said.

The Siddington Park resident added that studying makes her feel better.

"If I have a day when I'm not studying, on the day that I do study I feel better, and that's something people aren't aware of. It can really do good for [other people close to my age's] brain."
