Bato, Catanduanes police chief sacked over controversial remarks on Tarlac shooting
Police Captain Ariel Buraga has been relieved of his post as police chief of Bato, Catanduanes after he posted on Facebook that the mother and son gunned down in Tarlac were to blame for what happened.
“May policy din po kasi tayo sa mga pulis na 'wag gamitin ang social media sa mga opinyon na 'di magbibigay ng hustisya para sa propesyonal na pagtanaw ng PNP sa isang usapin,” PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Ildebrandi Usana said in a report.
Buraga drew flak after his Facebook post intimated that the mother and son who were gunned down by Police Senior Master Sgt. Jonel Nuezca in Tarlac over a neighborhood quarrel had it coming due to their lack of respect.
After his post went viral, Buraga said over an interview by Radio Natin Virac that he meant no ill-will in his post and only wanted people to respect the police more.
"Kasi yan na yung nawawala sa atin ngayon. Yung pag respeto sa ating kapulisan,” said Buraga.
Eventually, Bato Mayor Juan Rodulfo also asked the PNP to have his police chief be replaced due to his “disturbing” post.
