KAYA PA BA? 'Grabe 2020' trends on Twitter
Between a volcanic eruption, a global pandemic, political unrest, attacks on press freedom, and the damage brought about by earthquakes and typhoons –– how much more can 2020 bring us?
This was perhaps the mindset of several netizens who took to Twitter to air out their grievances and frustrations against the start of the decade.
The phrase “Grabe 2020” became the top trending topic on Twitter today, with Filipino users lamenting what the country and its people have been through since the start of the year.
Twitter user @beltranshein said, “Grabe 2020 we really won't forget this year!”

When Taal Volcano erupted in January of 2020 and killed 39 people, no one would have expected that to be only the first in a long series of disasters and predicaments that would affect our country and fellow Filipinos. The Masbate earthquake in August left 2 dead and at least 170 injured. And the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to sweep through our nation today after eight months, has just broken through 400,000 cases, with 7,710 deaths reported.
But as the year is reaching its end, many are growing tired and frustrated.
