'Time to move on': Mark Zuckerberg says Elon Musk 'isn't serious' about cage match

For Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg, rival entrepreneur Elon Musk "isn't serious" about their much-hyped cage match and it's already "time to move on."

"I think we can all agree Elon isn't serious and it's time to move on. I offered a real date," Zuckerberg wrote on Threads on Aug. 14. Zuckerberg previously suggested Aug. 26 to the CEO of X (formerly Twitter), even saying on Aug. 7 he's "ready today."

The Meta chief noted how Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White offered to make the match a "legit competition" for charity, but Musk won't confirm a date. Zuckerberg added that Musk told him he needs surgery, and asked to do a practice round in Zuckerberg's backyard instead.

"If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on," Zuckerberg said. "I'm going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously."

Musk seemingly addressed Zuckerberg's post in a tweet later in the day, where he wrote: "Zuck is a chicken."

Last Aug. 11, Musk said he spoke with Italy's prime minister and minister of culture, as the match would supposedly be held in Rome. He also tweeted Latin texts, name-dropped Julius Caesar, and referenced historical drama Gladiator.

"Everything done will pay respect to the past and present of Italy," he said. "And all proceeds go to veterans."

Talks about the cage match began in June, when Musk was replying to an X user who noted that Zuckerberg practices jiu-jitsu. The remark came amid news of the launching of X's rival platform Threads.

"I'm up for a cage match if he is lol," Musk said of Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg caught wind of Musk's reply and shared Musk's tweet in an Instagram Story with a superimposed text saying, "Send Me Location."
