PH Elections 2022: Proclaimed winners in NCR
The Halalan 2022 winners have been proclaimed in the National Capital Region, just a day after the May 9 polls.
Reelectionist mayors like Pasig’s Vico Sotto, Makati’s Abby Binay, Quezon City’s Joy Belmonte, and San Juan’s Francis Zamora dominated this year’s elections and secured another term in office. There are, however, fresh faces who swept the majority of votes in their respective cities, including Malabon’s Jeannie Sandoval and Parañaque’s Eric Olivarez.
Here are the candidates who clinched the top spot in the mayoral race.
Honey Lacuna makes history as Manila’s first lady mayor
Honey Lacuna became Manila’s first female mayor after gaining 497,752 votes in the local polls.
She ran under the Asenso Manileño group, which is aligned with the Aksyon Demokratiko party.
Lacuna, who was also the city's first woman vice mayor, worked as its health office’s physician from 1995 to 2004. She stepped into the political scene as city councilor from 2004 up until 2013.
Her top priority revolves around providing better healthcare for Manila residents.
Parañaque's Eric Olivarez is new city mayor
Eric Olivarez has won as Parañaque City mayor.
The former 1st District representative had 174,397 votes.
He will take the place of his brother Mayor Edwin Olivarez as its top executive, pushing to continue the latter's initiatives and services for the betterment of the city.
"Marami pong salamat sa tiwala at suporta!" he wrote on Facebook, addressing those who voted for them in this year's elections.
Jeannie Sandoval proclaimed as Malabon's first female mayor after close fight with rival
Jeannie Sandoval is now Malabon City's first female mayor.
It was a close fight with her opponent Enzo Oreta. Sandoval had 94,826, while Oreta had 93,547.
“Nais kong magpasalamat sa lahat ng mga tumulong, sa lahat ng mga naniwala, nagbigay ng suporta at sasamahan ako para lumiwanag ang Maalabon,” she said during the proclamation.
In the 2019 elections, Sandoval ran for the same position but lost to Lenlen Oreta.
She used to be the city government's vice mayor.
Wes Gatchalian is Valenzuela City’s new mayor
Rep. Wes Gatchalian is set to serve as the new mayor of Valenzuela City.
Gaining 275,650 votes, he will replace his brother Rex Gatchalian in the position. The latter, meanwhile, will serve as the new representative of Valenzuela’s First District.
On Facebook, the new chief executive expressed his gratitude for Filipinos' trust and support. "Isang malaking karangalan ang maluklok na Mayor at paglingkuran ang ating mahal na Lungsod ng Valenzuela!"
"Tutumbasan ko po ang inyong tiwala ng serbisyo at mga programa para sa patuloy na progreso ng ating mahal na syudad," he added.
With his fresh term, he hopes to help small businesses thrive in the country with various programs and initiatives.
Both ran under the Nationalist People's Coalition, on top of their leadership in their local coalition Tuloy Progreso, Valenzuela!
Joy Belmonte wins Quezon City mayoral race anew
Joy Belmonte has secured another term as Quezon City mayor based on partial and unofficial results from the Commission on Elections.
Belmonte received 617,908 votes while nearest rival Mike Defensor got 389,336 votes.
Belmonte trumpeted the gains of her programs to stem the COVID-19 pandemic against Defensor, whose role as a congressman in junking ABS-CBN's franchise renewal was also regularly pointed out due to its impact on the number of jobs lost in the city.
Ike Ponce earns third term in Pateros with mayoral race lead
Ike Ponce led the mayoral race in Pateros with 28,534 votes.
This is his third and final term as mayor of Metro Manila’s lone municipality.
With his reelection, he previously said he plans to push through with their initiatives that have been put on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting infrastructure projects.
He ran for the same position in 2001 and 2013, but only had a triumphant bid in 2016. He sought reelection in 2019.
Re-electionist Marcy Teodoro wins bid for Marikina City mayor
Marcy Teodoro, the current mayor of Marikina City, will serve another term under the same position.
The incumbent had a landslide victory over his opponent Bayani Fernando, who has worked as the city's 1st district representative.
Teodoro secured another term with 183,878 votes, while Fernando only gained 40,149 votes.
The politician has been Marikina mayor since 2016.
He has been praised for the city's pandemic efforts under his leadership, including the establishment of the Marikina Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory for COVID-19 mass testing, the efficient implementation of health protocols, and systematized medical services.
Another highlight of his previous term is the passage of the Anti-Discrimination Ordinance or City Ordinance No. 065 in 2019.
Abby Binay tops local elections in Makati for the third time
Abby Binay has been proclaimed by the Board of Canvassers as Makati City's mayor.
With her win, she's able to secure her third and final term as the city's top executive.
She gained 338,819 votes, while her rival Joel Hernandez got 16,640 votes in the local elections.
In Dec. 2021, the Department of Health - Metro Manila Center for Health Development recognized Binay for Makati's overall management of the COVID-19 pandemic, citing their efficient response and efforts in keeping the virus in control in the city.
Binay was Makati's 2nd District representative from 2007 to 2016, prior to winning the city's highest position in 2016. She got ahead of her brother, ex-mayor Junjun Binay in the 2019 elections.
Her running mate Monique Lagdameo won vice mayor.
Imelda Aguilar re-elected as Las Piñas mayor
Imelda Aguilar reigned supreme in the Las Piñas mayoral race, ahead of Ferds Eusebio.
The incumbent beat Eusebio by over 70,000 votes. Aguilar had a total of 108,644, while Eusebio had 38,285.
This is Aguilar's third and final term as city mayor.
She previously said she plans to "pursue the programs and services which I have already started that will benefit my constituents who deserve nothing less from the local government" with her successful reelection bid. Among her top priorities would be education, environment, healthcare, livelihood, and good governance.
Meanwhile, her daughter April has secured her second term as vice mayor with 123,457 votes.
The mother-daughter tandem, alongside their team Tuloy Ang Serbisyo, ran under the Nacionalista Party.
Francis Zamora secures second term as San Juan mayor
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora had a successful bid for reelection with his landslide win over Felix Usman.
Zamora—who was under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban)—had 66,883 votes, while his opponent only gained 9,413.
The San Juan mayor went live on Facebook last night, May 9 to thank everyone who voted for him in the polls. "Maraming-maraming salamat po sa inyong pagmamahal, tiwala at suporta na ibinigay ninyo sa amin sa pamamagitan ng 15-0 na boto para sa Team Makabagong San Juan!" he wrote.
The incumbent served two terms as vice mayor (2010 to 2016), and won the highest position in the city in the 2019 polls.
His running mate Warren Villa won vice mayor with 55,920 votes ahead of Philip Cezar, who garnered 16,608 votes.
Vico Sotto earns another term as Pasig City mayor
Vico Sotto has been reelected as Pasig City mayor after a landslide victory over his political rival, Vice Mayor Iyo Bernardo.
Proclaimed by the City Board of Canvassers, the incumbent earned a total of 335,851 votes in the elections. Bernardo, meanwhile, gained 45,604.
Sotto has reacted to his victory in a Facebook post. "Malinaw na malinaw ang tinig nating mga Pasigueño: TULOY ANG PAGBABAGO," he wrote.
"Maraming salamat sa mga nagpakita ng tiwala't suporta sa buong Giting ng Pasig," he added, including the hashtags #TrabahoBagoPolitika and #IbaNaNgayon.
Sotto first won the position in the 2019 midterm elections, putting an end to the Eusebio clan's 27-year rule in the city. Among the highlights of his first term were his focus on transparency in government operations and funds, the regularization of government workers, and the elimination of corruption in city hall, which led to his "anti-corruption champion" recognition by the US State Department in February.
He previously said he plans to push through with the progress and developments they have made in Pasig under his leadership with his reelection.
His running mate Dodot Jaworski won vice mayor, garnering a total of 205,250 votes.
