Rower Joanie Delgaco, swimmer Jarod Hatch bow out of Paris Olympics
Filipino athletes Joanie Delgaco and Jarod Hatch have concluded their Paris Olympics journey.
The Pinay rower ended her stint after finishing as the 20th overall best rower at the 2024 games. She ended her bid strong as she placed second in the Final D with a 7:43.83 record on Aug. 2.
Delgaco had a slow start but pushed through in the last round, overtaking other rowers to reach second place.
Despite her Paris bid ending, Delgaco still makes history as the first Filipina rower to qualify for the Olympics.
Meanwhile, swimmer Hatch placed eighth with a 54.66 finish during the second heat of the men's 100-meter butterfly event.
As he ranked 36th overall, he didn't make the semifinals which only includes the top 16 swimmers.
His fellow swimmer Kayla Sanchez ended her bid on July 30 as she finished 15th overall in the semifinals.
Earlier on Friday, boxer Aira Villegas celebrated her 29th birthday with a unanimous decision win over Algeria's Roumaysa Boualam. She advanced to the women's 50kg quarterfinals and is set to take on France's Wassilia Lkhadiri on Aug. 4.
Delgaco placed fourth at the World Rowing Asian and Oceanian Olympic Qualification Regatta in South Korea in April, while Hatch represented the country at the World Aquatics Championships and SEA Games.
