Trump looks forward to meeting Biden at the White House, says campaign
President-elect Donald Trump is looking forward to meeting President Joe Biden at the White House as part of the transition from the outgoing Democratic administration to the new Republican one, Trump's campaign said.
According to the White House, Biden on Wednesday, Nov. 6 called to congratulate Trump on his presidential election victory and invite him to meet there. It also said Biden committed "to ensuring a smooth transition and emphasized the importance of working to bring the country together." Biden has likewise spoken with Trump's rival, Democrat and outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris, it added.
Reacting to the move, Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign, said: “President Trump looks forward to the meeting, which will take place shortly, and very much appreciated the call.”
Trump, 78, recaptured the White House on Wednesday by securing more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency, Edison Research projected, following a campaign of dark rhetoric that deepened the polarization in the country. (Reuters)
