Minimum wage for house helpers in Metro Manila is now at P6,000 monthly
Domestic helpers in Metro Manila will now be entitled to a P1,000 increase in their monthly salary, bringing their minimum wage up to P6,000 a month.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) approved the wage hike, which has been sent to the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) for review.
"The decision is being transmitted as we speak to the NWPC for review and eventual affirmation tomorrow," DOLE spokesperson Rolly Francia said during an online briefing on June 22. Once confirmed, the wage hike will take effect after 15 days.
The current minimum wage for helpers in Metro Manila is P5,000, and with the wage increase, the monthly minimum wage will be P6,000.
According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), more than 200,000 helpers or kasambahays in the metro will benefit from the wage increase. About 60% of these workers live in their employers' homes.
Workers may file a complete to the RTWPB or DOLE if employers will not comply with the approved minimum wage.
DOLE spokesperson Rolly Francia added that only two regional wage boards—Calabarzon and Soccskargen—have yet to grant a wage increase for domestic helpers.
