ICYMI: PHLPost pays tribute to 10 world-class Filipinos with brand-new commemorative stamps
It’s only fitting that the world-class Filipino talent be given recognition for bringing pride, hope and inspiration to Pinoys.
As a tribute to the Filipino’s indomitable spirit, 10 world-renowned Filipinos—who have made and are making a mark in their respective fields—were recently recognized by the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) through its “Living Legends: World-Renowned Filipinos—Series I” commemorative stamps.
The launch coincides with the 75th anniversary celebration of the issuance of the first stamp that bears the inauguration of the Philippine Republic and PHLPost’s 254th founding anniversary.
Included in the first series are the following:
• Tech inventor and entrepreneur Dado Banatao
• NBA star Jordan Clarkson
• Industrial/furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue
• The iconic Jollibee mascot
• Fashion designer and entrepreneur Monique Lhuillier
• Fashion designer and entrepreneur Josie Natori
• Six-time World Bowling champion Paeng Nepomuceno
• International billiards legend Efren “Bata” Reyes
• Broadway star, singer and actress Lea Salonga
• Asia’s first grandmaster and World Chess Hall of Famer Eugene Torre
According to PHLPost, these individuals “represent the best and brightest Filipinos, whose excellence in their respective fields have brought international recognition to the Philippines.”
“These icons have fueled Filipino pride and proven that Filipino talent rises to the global standard,” the PHLPost said.
The “Living Legends: World-Renowned Filipinos—Series I” is the first of three categories that will be released soon, which include “Living Legends: Outstanding Filipinos” series; and “Never Forgotten” series.
During the Nov. 13 launch, Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio said the PHLPost issued the “new generation” of stamps to capture and renew the interest of Filipinos—young and old—in preserving Filipino culture and values.
In October, the PHLPost also released commemorative stamps and souvenir sheets featuring Philippine basketball legend Robert Jaworski as part of its “Salamat—Pagpupugay sa mga Alamat” series.
November is National Stamp Collecting Month, which was declared by former President Fidel V. Ramos who is a stamp collector himself.
The stamps are available at the Manila Central Post Office. For more information, call (02) 8527-0108 or (02) 8527-0132.
