Kris Aquino reveals engagement with ex-DILG Sec. Mel Senen Sarmiento: 'In God’s perfect time.'
Kris Aquino has happily shared to the public that she is now engaged to Mel Senen Sarmiento, who was a former Interior and Local Government secretary.
“As much as I am proud to be an Aquino, looking forward na kong maging Sarmiento,” said Aquino in an Instagram video posted today, Oct. 24.
The 55-second video showed a bunch of pink roses with the couple, grinning ear to ear, standing next to each other as Sarmiento seemingly struggled to say something to the camera.
To my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with, thank you for as Bimb said loving me for me, with no agenda, and for being just an overall good and patient man.
“Hindi ako pang-showbiz ano ka,” Sarmiento said in jest to Aquino.
“Ay ewan ko sayo,” a smiling Aquino then replied.
Sarmiento, however, never did get to say what he intended to say, as the video ended with a shot of two red ring boxes surrounded by roses as the song I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You by Savage Garden plays in the background.
This also marks the first time that Aquino publicly acknowledged her relationship with Sarmiento. Last August, however, Aquino posted a birthday message to a special someone on Instagram. Though she did not disclose who that someone was, Sarmiento came out in the comments section of the post to publicly defend Aquino against a comment critical of her.
In the caption to her video, Aquino also said she is now down to 95 pounds due to the toll of recent events.
“This pandemic and many stressful events that happened since mid August really caused my weight to drop & my health to suffer,” said Aquino.
Aquino also mentioned her brother, former president Benigno Aquino III, who passed away last June 24.
“Sure ako, ayaw nya talagang iwanan si 'bunso' na walang magbabantay at mag-aalaga na siguradong pinagkakatiwalaan niya,” said Aquino.
“Somehow I believe there really was a matchmaker in heaven who must be smiling now - I can almost hear his voice telling me, ‘Kristina, tama na, respect the fact na gusto ni Mel ng tahimik na buhay.’ And finally, ‘bunso’ has learned to obey,” said Aquino.
Tama silang lahat na nagsabi in God’s perfect time.
Aquino then acknowledged how big of an impact Sarmiento has been in her life and her son, Bimby.
“To my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with, thank you for as Bimb said loving me for me, with no agenda, and for being just an overall good and patient man. It’s unreal how much more calm & peaceful I feel now that you’re here,” said Aquino.
She also thanked the former president, saying that she would never have “met nor reconnected (with Sarmiento) had it not been for Noy.”
Sarmiento was secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government from Sept. 11, 2015 to June 30, 2016 during the Aquino administration.
“We love you and we miss you,” Aquino said of her older brother.
“But THANK YOU, you must have known how broken I’d be to lose you, so you made sure there was someone who not only helped wipe away my tears, he’s made it possible for me to smile and laugh again. Dumating nung hindi ko hinahanap o inaasahan- kaya nga tama silang lahat na nagsabi in God’s perfect time,” Aquino said. (Bim Santos)
