LOOK: Marcoses bond with senators, spouses after Senate presidency change
President Bongbong Marcos and his first lady Liza Marcos recently hosted a gathering with some senators and their spouses after the recent Senate presidency change.
In her Facebook post on Wednesday, May 22, the first lady shared their group photo taken at Bahay Pangulo, Manila.
“Casual dinner with the Senators & their spouses,” she wrote in the caption.
The gathering included senators Robin Padilla, siblings Allan and Pia Cayetano, Francis Tolentino, Win Gatchalian, Loren Legarda, Cynthia Villar and her husband Manny Villar, Raffy Tulfo and his wife Jocelyn Tulfo, Mark Villar, Grace Poe, Jinggoy Estrada, Lanie Mercado-Revilla, and more.
Newly elected Senate president Chiz Escudero and his wife, actress-fashion style icon Heart Evangelista also joined the occasion.
Of those senators present in the gathering, only Legarda and Gatchalian did not vote for Zubiri’s ouster as the Senate leader.
Tolentino, however, told GMA News Online that the gathering was planned three weeks ago and had nothing to do with the recent Senate shakeup.
Escudero took over the seat after Zubiri announced his resignation from the post.
Zubiri did not specifically disclose the reason, but he stressed that he aimed to maintain the independence of the Senate.
“I’m heartbroken not because of the position, I’m heartbroken because of those who committed to be steadfast with us, who had the same ideals, and all of the sudden, biglang nawala. Ganiyan talaga ang buhay,” he said, sharing that he had conflicts with regard to his stand on People’s Initiative and Charter Change.
“So I hope, the new leadership will not succumb to pressure, only time will tell,” he said.
