Caught on camera: Formula 2 driver loses license after posting speeding stunt on TikTok
TikTok may be a place for silly antics and challenges, but sometimes, it doesn't let users get away with it—especially if it's illegal. Formula 2 driver Amaury Cordeel saw his shenanigans catch up to him as he lost his license after filming himself speeding.
According to Motorsports.com, the 20-year-old Belgian racer was caught because of a TikTok video he posted in 2020 but was only found guilty recently.
Cordeel was seen driving 179 km/h on a street with a 50 km/h speed limit in the video, which was later deleted. The clip was later reported to the local police, with the racer being fined €3,600 (P211,000) and his driver's license revoked for six months.
This wasn't the young driver's first speeding-related controversy as he was previously accused of driving more than 300 km/h in an Audi in another video posted online. However, he denied being the one behind the wheel for this incident.
Cordeel was recently announced as part of Virtuosi racing team's 2023 line-up alongside Australia's Jack Doohan.
Although it's still unclear whether the incident will have an impact on the 20-year-old's racing career, but Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel told Motorsport.com that it would be further discussed.
"It's probably something that will have to be discussed with the FIA, to see how to deal with it and whether to do anything special. We can't ignore the fact, that's for sure... [It's] something we definitely need to discuss with the FIA, to see how to handle it," Michel said.
