They say that a dog is a man's best friend, but in this case, it became a burglar's partner-in-crime.

In a report published by the San Diego Police Department, a suspected burglar was captured by CCTV footage attempting to steal a bicycle from the victim's garage.

According to authorities, the stolen item wasn't just any other ordinary bicycle as it was a 2019 black Electra 3-speed bicycle valued at approximately $1,300 (P72,980), and has "distinct" features such as 8-ball caps on the tire valves, an 8-ball logo on the frame, and a rear wheel frame marked with a checkered black and white pattern.

In a rather peculiar turn of events, as the suspect was about to make his escape, the victim's household dog suddenly entered the garage. Instead of acting aggressively towards the unidentified man, however, the golden retriever wagged its tail and began to get playful around him.

In turn, the suspect pulled the bike back into the garage and showered the friendly dog with pets and belly rubs.

Based on the video's audio recording, the man could be heard saying, "You're the coolest dog I've ever known. I love you, too. You're a sweetheart."

The man then proceeded to ask the golden retriever where its owner was and even quipped at how they should not have left their garage door open, all while he was being licked in the face by the playful canine.

The suspect then took the bike away from the garage. There has been no update as to whether the thief remains at large, but police are requesting assistance from the public for any information about him and his whereabouts.
