Marking his 18th international trip since he became the country's chief in 2022, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos attended the royal wedding of Prince Abdul Mateen in Brunei.
Mateen, one of Asia's most eligible bachelors, married commoner Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah on Jan. 11, with the grandiose ceremony lasting for 10 days. The wedding attended by the Marcoses happened at the Istana Nurul Iman royal palace on Jan. 14.
Other political leaders such as Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, King Jigme and Queen Jetsum Pema of Bhutan, and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong were also in attendance.
Araneta-Marcos shared photos from the wedding on Jan. 14, including snaps of the newlywed royal couple and of her and Marcos Jr. seated alongside other world leaders.
"Our best wishes to the newlyweds & congratulations to the Royal Family of Brunei Darussalam! Thank you for inviting us to share this joyous occasion!" the First Lady wrote.
On Jan. 13, the Presidential Communications Office announced that the first couple would leave for Brunei and return on Sunday.
Mateen, 32, is the 10th child of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the world's longest-reigning monarch. Meanwhile, his bride, Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah, is the granddaughter of one of his father's key advisers. She is part of a prominent family in Brunei and has her own fashion brand and tourism business.
