Not Tallano gold: Costco is now offering 24k gold bars—and they're selling out in hours

The Tallano gold has been fool's gold for many Filipinos, but individuals may just strike gold for real as American warehouse club Costco is now selling gold bars.

CBS News reported that Costco has started selling 1-ounce bars of authentic 24-karat gold on its website this week. The demand, however, was so high that purchases had to be limited to two bars per member.

The gold bar has two designs—one that bears the imprint of a silhouette of the goddess of fortune with a cornucopia, i.e., PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan. Another has an elephant design from South Africa's Rand Refinery.

Both bars are about half an inch long. The PAMP Suisse bar is registered and comes with a digital certificate that can be accessed with a QR code, while the Rand bars come with their own serial numbers.

As of Sept. 28, the bars are unavailable and the price isn't listed for the time being.

The PAMP bar was previously selling for $1,980 (P112,000) and the Rand bar for $1,950 (P110,000), according to CBS News, citing Yahoo Finance.
