Why Floyd Mayweather is trending again—3 years after retirement
Three years after his boxing retirement, Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. made the rounds online yet again after claiming that he is the greatest boxer of all time.
Calling out boxing legends in an interview on Club Shay Shay, the undefeated American boxer said, “Is Ali the same fighter that got beat by a fighter with seven fights? Leon Spinks beat Muhammad Ali when he only had seven fights. What’s the heavyweight guy that Ali fought three times, Ken Norton? Ken Norton really beat Ali three times, go back and look at the fights.”
Mayweather, who had a 50-0 boxing record with 27 KOs, continued on to say that he “accomplished more than every fighter in the history of boxing.” “How many world champions have Rocky Marciano beat?” he asked. “So, we already know, I beat more champions that’s going in the Hall of Fame than he beat in his career period.”
How come he rarely gets recognized for his being the “TBE?” He had one word to say: "Jealousy." This, despite WBC strawweight champion Wanheng Menayothin’s 54-0 boxing record and anticipated win this November. “He’s 54-0 and only beat one world champion? This is who y’all are trying to call TBE? Okay, y’all are some comedians."
Mayweather, 43, is now a full-time trainer and promoter. He retired from boxing in August 2017, after bagging world titles in five different weight classes.
