Isko Moreno, son Joaquin, Mocha Uson to run for Manila office in 2025

A celebrity father-son team and a controversial vlogger are expected to run for office in Manila's 2025 midterm elections.

Former Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, his actor son Joaquin, and vlogger and former The STAR columnist Mocha Uson are aiming for seats in the City of Manila next year

Moreno, who is the president of the Aksyon Demokratiko, together with its chairman Ernest Ramel Jr., led the oathtaking of the political party's new members. 

They include personalities like Moreno’s son, Domagoso, Uson, former Philippine Basketball Association small forward Bong “Mr. Excitement” Alvarez, actor and Manila District 6 Councilor Luciano “Lou” Veloso, and television host Chi Atienza-Valdepeñas who is the daughter of former Manila mayor Lito Atienza.

Ramel told The Philippine STAR that Moreno and Atienza-Valdepeñas will run for mayor and vice mayor of Manila, respectively. Domagoso will be running for District 1 city councilor, while Uson and Alvarez under District 3, and Veloso under District 6 where he is currently serving. 

Among those listed as "Yorme's Choice" are incumbent councilors of the City of Manila who are also running next year are District 1 Councilors Irma Alfonso-Juson, Jesus Fajardo Jr. and Erick Ian Nieva; Councilor Darwin Sia of District 2; Councilor Timothy Oliver Zarcal of District 3; Councilors Don Juan Bagatsing and Louise Marie Quintos-Tan of District 4; Councilors Roberto Espiritu II, Jaybee Hizon and Raymundo Yupangco of District 5; and Councilors Veloso and Elmer Par of District 6.

The following will also run for city councilor under Aksyon Demokratiko: Bobby Hernane, and retired police lieutenant colonel Rosalino “Jhun” Ibay Jr. under District 1; Nico Evangelista, Rommel Miranda, Robbie Ong, Bolong Sy, and Edward Tan under District 2; Chris Tagle, and Johnny “Rolin J” dela Cruz under District 3; Kuya Francis “Dok” Almiron, Romeo Bagay, Eunice Castro, and Rino Tolentino under District 4; Che Borromeo, Tol Mac Ignacio, and Zeb Laureano under District 5; and Voltaire Castañeda, Kid Marasigan, Doc Mercado, and Christian Uy under District 6.

In addition, Carlo Lopez will aim for the seat in the House of Representatives for Manila’s District 2, incumbent Councilor Joel “JTV” Villanueva for District 4, former congressman Amado Bagatsing for the same spot in District 5, and incumbent councilor Luis Uy for District 6.

Moreno left his position as mayor of Manila when he ran for president in the 2022 national elections.

Meanwhile, his son, Domagoso, is a 22-year-old actor and a GMA Sparkle talent. Earlier this year, he opened up about becoming a father at a young age and how he strives to be a role model to his son.

"Now that I am older and I am a father, I have to do things for myself because I am a role model. If I don’t do these things for my son, hindi niya ako susundan," he said during a guesting on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.

Uson, on the other hand, became the assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office in May 2017. She also briefly worked as the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration's deputy executive director. Uson is known for being one of the prominent supporters of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
