'Pak, bet!': Community pantry organizers sell 'gulay bouquets' to benefit farmers
The organizers of Community Pantry PH are showing love for our farmers by selling vegetable bouquets in time for Valentine's Day.
Maginhawa Community Pantry founder Ana Patricia "Patreng" Non announced the new initiative on social media, saying "Sa padating na Valentine's Day maaari pa natin i-extend ang pagmamahal natin sa iba mula sa pagbili natin ng gulay bouquet sa Community Pantry PH."
These cost P1,500 (on top of a P150-shipping fee), weighing nearly five kilograms each.
The bouquets will directly benefit Filipino farmers.
Specifically, proceeds will be used in vegetable rescue operations for the harvest of farmers.
Delivery is scheduled between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. either on Sunday, Feb. 12 or Monday, Feb. 13.
"Gawa mula sa pagmamahal ng Community Pantry Organizers!" Non said of the bouquets.
The order form containing additional details can be found here.
Non popularized the community pantry concept in the Philippines by setting up the first booth at Quezon City's Maginhawa Street during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hundreds of community pantries followed in at least 13 Philippine regions following her example in April 2020.
In December 2022, food inflation hit 10.6% as vegetable inflation reached 32.4%, which is the highest since February 1999. This makes a vegetable outreach initiative such as the gulay bouquet particularly timely among crisis-affected farmers.
