Cinema '76 moves to a new home in Tomas Morato
Cinema '76 is moving to a new location in Quezon City this November 2022.
In an announcement made on Monday, Sept. 26, the micro-cinema said that they are transfering to a "new and much improved home" in Tomas Morato. They also said that the Cinema ’76 Film Society and Cinema ’76 Cafe in Anonas will remain open until Tuesday, October 4.
In 2016, TBA Studios opened the first Cinema '76 in San Juan to make local and international independent and classic films accessible to more Filipinos.
In 2020, the micro-cinema suffered loss and was one of the many establishments that was forced to temporarily halt operations amid the global pandemic. To cater to viewers at home, they launched Cinema '76@Home, their own online platform for streaming movies, in November 2020.
However, in September 2021, Cinema '76 shut down its operations in its original branch in San Juan City.
“Our hearts may be heavy, but we know that this is not goodbye,” the film society said in their statement. “We believe in the resilience of creatives in the industry. We believe in the passion of Filipino movie fans. Magkakasama-sama din tayo ulit sa loob ng sinehan.”
They later welcomed back cinephiles at their Anonas branch in November of the same year and opened an alfresco café.
