Tourist finds corpse under his hotel bed after detecting strong putrid smell in room

It goes without saying that influencer-approved hotels are those that come with top-rate aesthetic facilities. So imagine the horror felt by a Chinese tourist when he discovered that a corpse was lying under his bed in a popular hotel in Tibet.

The tourist, surnamed Zhang, experienced what it was like to be over one's dead body quite literally, when he booked accommodation at the Guzang Shuhua Inn on April 21. The hotel is popular among social media influencers for its colorful interiors, warm lights, and wooden balconies, according to BBC.

After checking into the hotel that day, Zhang took a nap for three hours in his hotel room and detected a putrid and overpowering smell that he assumed to be coming from the bakery downstairs or his room's heating system. He even thought that it might be caused by his own feet.

He left the room at around 3:30 p.m. local time and returned later to briefly change clothes for dinner. Apparently, the pungent odor was still there.

The tourist went back to his room after dinner, but because the smell was so bad, he requested to be transferred to another room.

Little did Zhang know, the mystery is far from over. Later that night, hotel staff knocked on the door of his new room and asked him to go down to the room he vacated. Turns out, a corpse was discovered under the bed he slept on for three hours.

Police who were investigating the room recorded Zhang's statement and collected his DNA. But they told him not to worry as they had already arrested the suspect. According to the video the police released, the culprit was found on a train to Lanzhou city.

Zhang initially did not have plans to publicize his experience but was left with no choice when the hotel denied the incident and accused him of making up stories.

He then shared his story and receipt of his hotel booking on Chinese microblogging site Weibo. According to BBC, his post earned thousands of comments and reactions and was later picked up by local media.
