Why you have a deactivated status on the Comelec precinct finder—and how you can fix it

The Commission on Elections said some of the issues about deactivated voter status on their newly launched precinct finder online portal can still be resolved.

In an interview on Radyo 5, Commissioner George Garcia clarified that one’s status would only be considered deactivated if they failed to vote in the past two consecutive elections, including the barangay polls. “Kung hindi ka nakaboto noong 2018 at hindi ka nakaboto noong 2019, kahit nakaboto ka noong 2016, made-deactivate ang iyong pangalan. Therefore, hindi kayo makakaboto. ‘Yan ‘yung isa sa issues,” he said.

If you got the same result despite being an active voter, Garcia added that the Comelec can work with the agency's information technology department to verify your record. 

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez told CNN Philippines that you may e-mail your concern to Comelec at [email protected] along with your full name, date of birth, and your city/municipality of registration. You may also seek clarification from your local election officer via Comelec’s directory of its National Capital Region offices and non-NCR centers, as stated on its official website. 

The Comelec activated its precinct finder on Friday, April 22—ahead of the 2022 national elections slated for May 9.
