2-year-old dies after leaving hotel room, drowning in pool while influencer parents were napping
The two-year-old son of influencers died after drowning in a hotel pool while his parents were napping in the room next door.
In an Instagram post, Malaysian influencer Jasmine Yong said she, her husband and fellow influencer Lim Kong Wang, and son Enzo stayed in a hotel last May 11 to celebrate Mother’s Day.
"As always, he snuggled up next to us and drank milk before falling asleep," Yong wrote in the caption translated to English.
The husband and wife took a nap and when they woke up, Enzo wasn’t in the room anymore.
“When I woke up, I found that he was not next to me," she said, adding she saw that the “originally locked door of the indoor swimming pool had been opened.”
The couple found Enzo in the pool unresponsive and tried to perform CPR, but “there was no response.” The hotel’s poor network prevented them from making a call for help.
"We hurriedly ran to the hotel lobby with the baby in our arms and asked the hotel staff to help call an ambulance and provide first aid until the ambulance arrived," she said.
Half an hour after being brought to the hospital, Enzo recovered his heartbeat but was still in a coma.
Yong said her baby “worked hard to hold on until yesterday afternoon,” May 17, when his heartbeat stopped due to insufficient oxygen supply.
She pointed out that nobody wanted the accident to happen, and requested media outlets to “refrain from exaggerating, taking quotes out of context, and making things up out of nothing.”
Yong also wrote more posts to pay tribute to her son, including IG Reels of him taken at home and during their family outing.
Yong, who has over 472,000 followers, focuses on lifestyle, travel, and fashion. Wang, meanwhile, focuses on food and lifestyle. They also feature Enzo in their content from time to time.
