NAIA Terminal 3 experiences power outage on Labor Day
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 experienced a power outage on Labor Day, May 1, delaying flights and leaving passengers stranded.
In a statement, NAIA said the power outage happened at 1:05 a.m., and that the engineering team of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and Meralco are looking into the cause.
Standby power is now supplying electricity to critical facilities—like those that enable airline computer systems and the Bureau of Immigration—to function partially and enable the processing of both inbound and outbound passengers, according to NAIA.
"The MIAA Management apologizes to air travellers for the inconvenience that the situation may have brought to them," it said. The MIAA personnel are now continuously doing the rounds at Terminal 3 to assist affected passengers.
"Further advisories will be issued in the subsequent hours," NAIA added.
NAIA in a flight advisory said a total of 40 flights to and from Manila were canceled as of 9:00 a.m. due to the power outage.
