DepEd releases guidelines for school calendar, activities for AY 2024-2025
The Department of Education (DepEd) has released its implementing guidelines for the academic year 2024-2025.
As per Department Order 009 series of 2024, the upcoming school year will officially begin on July 29 and will end on April 15, 2025, inclusive of midyear break and end-of-school-year rites. The enrollment period shall begin on July 3 to July 26.
The primary learning delivery modality (LDM) will be in-person learning "given its crucial role in enabling in-depth and real-time teacher and learner interaction.”
Private schools are allowed to implement blended learning and full distance learning in accordance with Department Order 44 series of 2022.
In case of suspension of in-person classes due to disasters and emergencies, schools and CLCs (community learning centers) must implement a blended learning modality for the safety of learners and teaching and non-teaching personnel.
"During such circumstances, teachers shall be required to provide home learning tasks that are suited to the specific needs of learners and the severity of the situation in their respective areas, ensuring access to print or non-print learning modules and home learning plan to guide them in accomplishing assigned learning tasks," the order read.
The Brigada Eskwela, or the annual clean up and repair before the school starts, will be held from July 22 to 27 with the theme, “Bayanihan Para sa Matatag na Paaralan," while the DepEd will conduct the Oplan Balik Eskwela from July 22 to Aug. 22.
To monitor the learners' progress, teachers shall conduct formative and summative assessments based on the dates provided in the department order.
There should also be career guidance activities conducted within the first and second quarter of the academic year to assist junior high school students with their academic plans for their senior year, the same with the senior high school students for their subsequent curriculum exits.
The midyear school break is scheduled from Nov. 25 to 29 while the Christmas break will begin on December 21, 2024. Classes shall resume on January 2, 2025.
The deliberation of learners’ awards and recognitions may be conducted not later than three days before the End-of-School-Year rites.
"Private schools, state/local universities and colleges (SUCs/LUCs) may adopt these omnibus implementing guidelines on the school calendar and shall follow provisions stipulated under RA 11480 concerning the required number of class days and the opening of the SY. Schools shall report any inevitable deviation from these guidelines in advance to their respective regional offices (ROs)," the department order stated.
