Makati students are about to kick off the school year with brand-new kicks. The city government has unveiled the design of its newest line of "Air Binay" rubber shoes.

In a Facebook post, Makati shared a photo of "AB 6.0," which has shades of navy blue and white, as well as an "M" design on the side.

"This is 6! AB 6.0! Better style, Better moves! Ready na ba kayo?" the page said.

The shoes took its name from the Air Jordan line produced by American sportswear brand Nike, while Binay pertains to the city's mayor, Abby Binay.

The shoes are given to students of the city public school for free.

Last year, the city government said it distributed over 78,000 pairs of Air Binay 5.0. It also came with free water bottles, jackets, and bags.

The free goods are part of the city's Project FREE or Free Relevant Excellent Education, which aims to provide preschool to senior high students with free school supplies and uniforms.

Makati released the first pair of Air Binay in 2018. It was halted in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In October 2021, shoes that resembled the Air Binay units from 2019 were reportedly sold at a mall in Saudi Arabia.

Makati said it wasn't owned by the city government and launched an investigation at the time.
