Bride enraged after dad sent wedding invite PDF to 'every single relative' without consent

A bride-to-be is furious after her dad sent out the PDF version of her wedding invite to “every single relative,” including those she hadn’t met yet, without her permission.

In her post on the “Wedding Shaming” subreddit, the original poster explained that she lives in a different country from her relatives, while her dad loves to visit them. He volunteered to hand-deliver some of her wedding invitations to her relatives, to which she agreed. She proceeded to give him the exact number of invites plus the guest list.

“Communicating with relatives this way has always been his method, so no red flags here. Plus, my lack of time to visit their country made me think this was a great idea: a win-win,” she wrote.

She added that a few weeks later, her dad asked for a PDF version of the invite because one of the relatives lives two hours away, which is a hassle for him to hand-deliver it.

“I asked, ‘Why don’t you just drop it off at the post office?’ to which her dad replied that they are now talking on WhatsApp and sending it on PDF would be easier. The bride-to-be then “naively” complied.

She later on wrote that she learned that her dad didn’t follow her guest list and sent the PDF version of the invite to “every single relative,” including those she hadn’t met yet.

“Why? Because, in his words, 'I can’t possibly go to X relative and not Y relative, that’s not the right way to do things.’ I was in disbelief and speechless,” she lamented.

She added how her dad blamed her for the mishap, saying that she agreed to invite her other relatives when she was only referring to her first cousins.

“He used that as an excuse to invite all of HIS second and third cousins. The fact that both my mother (they’re divorced by the way) and I sent him the list of people 4 TIMES, and he still did whatever he wanted, then blamed me for saying I wanted my cousins there, is WILD,” she exclaimed.

The bride-to-be added that she explained to him that he doesn’t get to decide on the extra guests because it was not his wedding and warned that if those not on the guest list confirmed their attendance, he would have to pay for them.

After asking for an apology a few times, her dad eventually said, "I might have done something wrong, sorry."

"I let him know about these extra people, and his response was, 'Uninvite them then,'" the bride wrote.

"He created this issue. I don’t know these people, don’t have their numbers, they’re not on social media, and I don’t even live in that country anymore," the bride concluded. "Yet, he’s making it my problem. The urge to go no contact and never see him again is strong, and I am RAGING."

Many Reddit users expressed their support for the OP, with most of them saying that the dad should uninvite the extras, he must shoulder the additional expenses for them, or uninvite him as well.

“This would infuriate me to no end. I’d tell him to uninvite all the extras, or HE would no longer be invited. I have very little patience for boundary stompers,” a Redditor commented.

Another commented, “I’m afraid that you’ll still get a bunch of people that didn’t even RSVP because they’re not used to it.” OP also replied, “That’s my biggest fear. But in a petty way, I would love to see that scene unfolding. I told my wedding planner about the situation and that if extra people show up to bluntly tell them what my dad did.”
