Aubrey Miles has this message for those who are feeling pressured to get married
When you know, you know.
Aubrey Miles got engaged to Troy Montero after being together for 18 years. It may seem too long a time for a proposal, but for the celebrity couple, a happy, committed relationship speaks more volumes than a marriage contract and a ring. For that reason, they have always been vocal about not being “in a rush” to get married.
In an interview with PhilSTAR L!fe, Aubrey revealed that Troy “has always been ready to take the next step”—she just wasn’t. “I said it many times to him and he felt like I didn’t believe in marriage,” she shared.
“I always knew it’s him,” Aubrey added quickly, “I just don’t like to give him that pressure or obligation that when we reach three to four years of being together, we have to tie the knot.”
Troy has popped the question to her a few times in the past—there was even a time he asked her to marry him without an engagement ring in hand. “I told him I don’t need a ring or even a proposal because we’ve been together for almost two decades. I think we passed that proposal stage,” she said.
They planned on getting married in April 2020, but it was postponed due to the pandemic. The plan, eventually, just flew by.
But on March 22, 2022, things felt different—and completely right. “I don’t know what it was, but being engaged and having a ring on my finger felt so exciting. It was just the perfect timing. I really believe everything has the right timing.”
The proposal took place in Boracay, since Aubrey’s birthday wish was to experience the joy of island living for three weeks. “I said I wanted to try the glass kayak. Once we got there, a few paddles on the way to the middle, he said ‘Hey, I have something for you,’” recalled Aubrey.
“Weirdly enough, I felt like a jerk and looked at his hand. I don’t know why I did that!" she continued. "And then there it was—a white box in his hand. I couldn’t jump because our kayak might tip over, so I sat still and giggled.”
“He told me, ‘Okay, this is a long-overdue attempt for us.’ Then he opened the box and asked me, ‘Do you like it?’ I asked if I could see it again. Troy asked: ‘Will you be my forever?’”
Aubrey’s immediate answer? “Thank you! It’s a big ring! Lol! Yes, yes!” Then they both laughed and locked in an embrace.
Aubrey could only turn out grateful for Troy’s love and patience throughout the years. “I asked him, ‘What if I said no? What will your reaction be?’ He said he’ll try again.”
In love and relationships, Aubrey stressed the importance of trusting the process. “Don’t pressure each other and don’t get pressured by others. If you know what you feel and you have a solid relationship, it’s not the time you’ve been together that’s important—it’s the quality of relationship that you have,” emphasized Aubrey, who shares two children with Troy and another one with her ex-boyfriend JP Obligacion.
“Treat your relationship like you’re already married, like they’re your forever partner or person,” the businesswoman explained. Like any other couple, Aubrey admitted they also argue—“but we fight because we fight to stay together.”
“Just enjoy the journey and love like you’ve never loved before,” she concluded.
